Review: Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman

Evening All,

Another review from me. I managed to get through two books relatively close to one another. I have to say out of the two I was on at the same time, this one was definitely my favourite.

Eleanor doesn’t get on very well in social situations. She’s awkward, blunt and absolutely hilarious. She has a very strict routine that she follows religiously and never strays from the norm. However things all start to change for her when she becomes ever so slightly delusional about one guy from a distance and gets closer to another after rescuing a fallen old man in the street.

I absolutely loved this book. It had me howling at parts! Eleanor is so straight to the point and honest in the most everyday scenarios that you can’t help but laugh out loud at some of her remarks. Part of me wishes that I could be just as honest as Eleanor at times and just say it as it is. However there is so much more to Eleanor than a lack of social skills. She’s so sweet and kind and by the end of the book, you realise that she is yearning for someone to care for and care for her in return but not necessarily in a romantic sense.

The relationship between Eleanor and Raymond (the office IT guy of which I have come across so many just like him in my time) is one of the most heart warming relationships I’ve encountered in a book in such a long time. Honeyman’s story telling takes you every step of the way of their journey together and I loved seeing them develop.

This book had me close to tears from both laughter and sadness. I would LOVE to read a follow on! My first (and hopefully not last) 5 star review of 2018!!

😍😍😍😍😍
